1916 Celebrations.

2015-12-08 10.33.21All the children in the school came out to the yard to see the National Flag and a copy of the Proclamation being presented to children from 5th Class by members of the defence forces. This initiative is part of the State Centenary Programme to remember 1916 and reflect on the Republic 100 years on, and to re-imagine our future.

Don’t Forget Your Shovel….

Next Thursday 17th September will be a momentous day in the history of St. Kilian’s N.S. as we turn the first sod on our new school’s building project. The ceremony will take place at 2pm on our new site on the Virginia Rd. After years of planning , hard work, many disappointments, broken promises and setbacks, work will now finally commence on the new school building on Monday 21st Sept. The architects for our project are Kenny, Lyons Associates Architects from Tullamore, Co Offaly.  Ganson Building and Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd., from Balbriggan have been appointed as builders for the project.

Our school will be a generic repeat design 16 classroom school with associated siteworks. The overall cost of the project is €5million. The 16 classroom school includes a General Purpose Room, library, support teaching rooms, staff room and other ancillary accommodation. We are delighted to have included in the design dedicated accommodation and play area for Spraoi our ASD Unit. The siteworks will include two ballcourts and junior play area, informal grass play areas, landscaping, boundary treatments, pedestrian and vehicle access roads and car park.

It is envisaged that the project will take approximately 60 weeks to complete and so if all runs smoothly we should be in situ well before Christmas 2016. I will keep the school community updated on progress made, through this blog.

Success for Spikeball Teams

2015 was the most successful year for spikeball at St. Kilian’s. We entered 2 boys and 2 girls teams into the Leinster competition, the only school to do so. Every team won at least one game beating various other county champions. One of our girls teams lost 17 – 15 in the semi-final, having been unbeaten prior to that heart breaking loss.  The boys team gained revenge against a team they had lost to earlier by beating them 21 – 14 in a spectacular final.  This boys team will now progress to represent the Eastern region in the National Finals at the end of the month.  Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh a bhuachaillí.
